Children's Power Play! Campaign

Background
The Children's Power Play! Campaign was formed to:

  • Increase fruit and vegetable consumption
  • Have a positive, long-term impact on the eating habits of children
  • Decrease future risk of chronic illness
  • Increase children's nutrition knowledge
  • Increase physical activity

The message is simple--to encourage 9, 10 and 11 year olds with limited resources to eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and be physically active for better health and active lifestyle.

What Does the Campaign Do?
Led by the UC Cooperative Extension, the campaign provides FREE Power Play! training, idea and resource kits for qualified schools* and community youth organizations**.  In addition, the campaign offers brochures and posters to promote the Children's Power Play!.

The campaign works with farmers markets, supermarkets and food services to get the Power Play! message out to the local communities.

*In order to be a qualified school, at least 50% of its enrolled students must be eligible for a free or reduced lunch program.
**In order to be a qualified community youth organization, at least 50% of the children served on-site are from families at or below 185% of the federal poverty level.
