The Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP) consists of adult and youth program components and operates in 40 California counties.
To improve the diet and nutrition skills of children from food stamp households, teachers, youth program leaders and other extenders are trained to deliver nutrition education, the important message of consuming the proper amount of fruits and vegetables, food safety, and physical activity.
The intended audience for this program is:
-Preschool to high school age youth in low-income areas
-Youth receiving free or reduced price school breakfast or lunch
-Youth from families receiving food stamps or other federal assistance
Available curricula*:
-Happy Healthy Me (4 to 6 year olds)
-Reading Across My Pyramid (K to 3rd graders)
-Nutrition to Grow on (4th to 6th graders)
-Eat Fit (middle to high schoolers)
-Jump Start (high schoolers)
-Money Talks for Teens, Hunger Attacks (middle to high schoolers)
*All curricula meet California Department of Education Standards.
