Second Chance

In June 2005, four TLDI youths at Compton High School organized a small project called Second Chance.  It was created to help the homeless living in nearby communities.  The goals were simple:  to organize a clothing drive with the participation of fellow students, faculty and staff at Compton High School.  The drive was scheduled for three days (June 7, 8 and 9) on school grounds.

The youths circulated flyers, wrote letters to students, teachers and administrators.  They collected 700 lbs of clothes and delivered them to the Beacon Light Mission.  In addition, they received a $600 grant from the 4-H Youth Development Program for their proposal and creative energy.  The grant was used to purchase bath towels, soap and other grooming/ cleaning items.  The clothing drive was indeed a success.
